How to get your business … back in business
The very latest government guidance, courtesy of Aerona

Earlier this week the government revealed its sketch plan to help Britain ease its way back to normality by gradually relaxing some of the strict lockdown restrictions that have previously been imposed. One of the recommendations was that ‘if you cannot work from home you should go back to work’. That is fine, but the directive also imposed a number of responsibilities on company owners and managers in order to ensure that the workplace was a safe and secure place for their employees. In other words, before staff could return to their place of work it had to be ‘Covid Secure’.

In order to clarify this objective the government has created an online document detailing just how employers should prepare their workplaces to ensure that everyone can work safely.

At Aerona (Air & Sea) Customs Clearing Agents we have been operating ‘as normally as possible’ throughout the extended period of lockdown. In many respects we can be described as key workers as we continue to ensure that goods are safely and expertly imported and exported into and out of the UK. We have also been responsible for the onward distribution of many products brought into the county and we are delighted to have been able to assist the NHS, care homes and the caring community receive their vital PPE supplies.

If you are about to re-open your workplace … if you are an employer, an employee or self-employed in the UK, then the document circulated by the government, entitled Working safely during coronavirus (COVID-19) is vital reading.

Its subjects cover all the most important areas that you may need to consider, and these include:

1.     Thinking about risk.
2.     Who should go to work.
3.     Social distancing at work.
4.     Managing your customers, visitors and contractors.
5.     Cleaning the workplace.
6.     Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and face coverings.
7.     Workforce management.
8.     Inbound and outbound goods.

If you do have responsibility for people in your workplace, either workers or visitors, and if you need to understand the recommendations as detailed by the government, then it is absolutely essential that you study this document, which also includes a section on how you can obtain further guidance.
