Now overseas traders can apply for UK customs and tax benefits
Yes, there are now duty deferment advantages to be gained when importing goods into Britain

There was a significant update regarding the payment of customs and tax charges for traders who are not established in the UK when the UK Government amended national legislation in March 2021. The new laws permit traders not established in the UK to apply for a duty deferment account. This effectively means that the traders can delay paying most customs and tax charges when they import goods into Britain or when they release goods from an excise warehouse.

This is an area where Aerona (Air & Sea) Customs Clearing Agents Ltd can most probably be of valuable assistance to those traders who qualify and are able to take advantage of this important change in import legislation.

There is however, an important proviso that traders should be aware of. Eligible traders must be established in the UK. Traders who are not UK-established are not eligible to apply for a guarantee waiver, which means they are not entitled to apply for duty deferment benefits.

However, the good news is that they can still apply if they are able to provide a financial guarantee from an authorised financial institution that is established in the UK. They must also establish an approved direct debit procedure in order to qualify for duty deferment.

Many qualifying overseas traders are still somewhat confused regarding these new regulations, but at Aerona we will do our very best to advise traders on their rights as well as clarify their eligibility for duty deferment. Thanks to our long-established experience and worldwide activities we are in an enviable position and are uniquely qualified to assist qualifying traders.
