FSA launches food hygiene consultation
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) welcomes your views and comments

At the beginning of April we received a message from the FSA advising us of a new consultation scheme to help better protect consumer’s interests in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is an important message and includes proposed developments for a modernised food hygiene delivery model.

The consultation will extend for 12-weeks and will close at 23.59 on Friday 30th June 2023. We believe that it is important enough for Aerona to pass on the message to our own readers. If you deal in food then you should read the proposal.

Consequently here is an edited version of the message we received. If you wish to read the full article then please click on this link: http://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/news/fsa-launches-consultation-on-developing-a-modernised-food-hygiene-delivery-model-in-england-wales-and-northern-ireland

The main elements of the proposed food hygiene developments and the points on which the government wish to receive your comments are:

*  A modernised food hygiene intervention-rating scheme. This will determine the approximate frequency of food hygiene controls
   based on risk assessment
*  An updated risk-based approach to the timescales for initial official controls of new food establishments.
*  Increased flexibility as to the methods and techniques of official controls used to risk-rate an establishment.
*  Extending the activities that officers, such as Regulatory Support Officers can take for food hygiene.

Because food hygiene has changed dramatically in the three decades since the current regulatory system was introduced, these proposals will enable local authorities to spend more time on food businesses that are non-compliant or pose higher risks to public health. Importantly it will enable authorities to develop an effective food hygiene model that is fit for the future.

All comments and viewpoints should be included in the consultation response form and emailed to: hygienemodelreview@food.gov.uk

Please remember that the consultation will close at 23.59 on Friday 30th June 2023.
